Five days gives enough space to stop treating every transfer as a safari day. You get a real Serengeti stay and still reach Ngorongoro without a frantic same-day crater/departure combination.
For northern migration months we can use Kogatende; for a central/wider Serengeti plan we normally use Seronera and match camp accordingly.

Zanzibar → Serengeti arrival safari
Hotel pickup, airport transfer, scheduled flight and private game drive from the airstrip to your lodge/camp.
Serengeti full day
Full private wildlife day with picnic or split-drive rhythm. The route responds to current sightings and seasonal movement.
Serengeti morning → scenic route toward Ngorongoro
A final morning game drive before a measured overland transition. Arrival in the highlands with enough time to settle in before dinner.
Ngorongoro Crater safari
Early descent, private crater game drive and picnic. Unlike the 4-day version, you are not forced into a long airport transfer immediately after the crater.
Arusha/JRO or Zanzibar connection
Relaxed departure from the highlands and transfer to Arusha/JRO, or a planned domestic connection back toward Zanzibar depending on your holiday.

Zanzibar outbound flight included when quoted; final day protects connection timing and can be built toward JRO, Arusha Airport or Zanzibar.
